The CGIAR FOCUS Climate Security team hosted a global climate security webinar series between June and November 2021. It covered an array of key climate security issues in the build up to the Food Systems Summit and COP26. Alan Nicol (IWMI) hosted the first webinar in the Climate Security Migration-Nexus series, ‘Is climate-induced migration a threat to socio-political security?’ which took place on 17 June 2021.

Supported by a cross-sectoral group of panelists from research, programming, and policy, the webinar examined the consequences of climate change, variability, and environmental degradation on human societies across the globe, and how these instigators are becoming more apparent, pushing people to adjust by migrating. People migrate for diverse reasons, and the causes and repercussions are obscure and entangled. This is especially true for climate, migration, displacement, and tension and violence. The discussion explored these links and the influence of climate change on human migration.
