About Us

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) hosting this MARIS community is a non-profit, scientific research organization focusing on the sustainable use of water and land resources in developing countries. It is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with regional offices across Asia and Africa. IWMI works in partnership with governments, civil society and the private sector to develop scalable agricultural water management solutions that have a real impact on poverty reduction, food security and ecosystem health. www.iwmi.org

The Water, Land, and Ecosystems (WLE) research program brought together the resources of 11 CGIAR centers, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the RUAF foundation, and numerous national, regional and international partners. Through these partners, WLE provided evidence and solutions on natural resource management in order to influence key decision makers, including governments, international development organizations, and financiers. WLE was supported by CGIAR Fund Donors, including direct support from: Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), United Kingdom: Department for International Development (DFID), The Netherlands: Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS), Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), and other partners. The program has now closed.

Other donors and supporters of MARIS include the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The AGRUMIG project funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 program supported the development of the MARIS policy community during 2019-2023.
